Digitalisation the state pays for
If you run a home care service that mainly looks after people in need of care in rural areas, there is a real opportunity in Lower Saxony right now: through the state programme 'Strengthening home care in rural areas', the state funds digitalisation projects with up to €40,000 per care service and calendar year. The introduction and first-year running of Log+Key can be financed this way – and several care services are already doing exactly that.
⏱️ Why it pays to act now
Funds are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis – by the date applications are received. Applying early in the year gives you the better chance. For projects that are due to start within the current year, the application must be submitted by 30 September at the latest. The current funding directive runs for the period 2023–2026.
🖥️ Why Log+Key is eligible
The directive names four funding priorities. One of them is explicitly the digitalisation of care through the introduction of IT systems and comparable technical solutions that support care. This is exactly where Log+Key fits: digital key and documentation management replaces paper lists and key logbooks, makes every key movement auditable and traceable, and takes pressure off the care service manager day to day – a benefit that also stands up during inspections by the Medical Service.

- Own contribution: at least 10% of the planned expenditure.
- Project duration: a maximum of 12 months.
- Requirement 1: a care provision contract with the care insurance funds (enclose a copy).

- Deadlines: applications for projects in the current year by 30 September; allocation on a first-come, first-served basis.
📝 The path to the application
The application goes to the Lower Saxony State Office for Social Affairs, Youth and Family (Osnabrück location). Among other things, you will need the application form, the overview of your care locations (Annex 1), a copy of the care provision contract, a detailed project description and a detailed expenditure and financing plan. The complete application must be sent signed by hand, by email to Team6SL1@ls.niedersachsen.de – please do not send documents by post. One note from the directive itself: involving external service providers for the application is explicitly not required. Please note: submitting an application does not create any legal entitlement to funding. Whether funding is granted, and in what amount, is decided solely by the State Office for Social Affairs. Since 1 January 2026, an early project start from the point of application is possible – however, applicants themselves bear the financial risks for any contracts concluded before the grant notice. The current funding directive and the information provided by the State Office are always decisive.
