A helping hand on the team for a while! Log+Key's first practical project 🧑🏻🎓💜
As part of their interdisciplinary project, five students from FH Aachen developed a digital billing tool for Log+Key that simplifies the processes behind our organisational work. Over the four months, we picked up plenty of new experiences ourselves, which we would like to share with you in detail in this blog post.
Less is more – one task delivered successfully is worth more than five ideas sketched out.
Naturally, we wanted to aim high straight away and offer our students an exciting challenge. As it turned out, we were a little too ambitious with the brief and overwhelmed the students with the sheer scope and number of tasks. This became clear soon enough as the project went on, and through open communication with one another we narrowed the requirements down to a few core points. This gave the students the chance to immerse themselves fully in a single task and to examine and finalise it down to the last detail. The sharply defined problem allowed the students to build up specific expertise, and we as a company come away from the project with a solid solution. What is more, there is a completely different sense of achievement for the students when the result is a finished, working product.
"Teamwork is a strategic decision, because none of us is as clever as all of us together.”
Once again, we realised just how much we value exchanging ideas with one another – and how much we really ought to value it. Every single person brings their own individual skills, approaches and ways of thinking, which complement and broaden the team as a whole. Quite contrary to the saying "too many cooks spoil the broth", we work in as open and varied a way as possible. After all, new faces and different approaches bring a breath of fresh air into the company and the daily office routine, giving a lift not only to our work processes but also to the general mood. We are all the more delighted to be keeping two of the students on the team for longer. From now on, Luis and Jonathan are lending us their support as an intern and a working student.
The privilege of an interdisciplinary project
Being able to find the resources for an interdisciplinary project alongside the usual day-to-day business is not something to take for granted. We are all the more grateful for a team that is happy to get involved, open to fresh input and to new colleagues for a while, and that appreciates the value such projects deliver. Passing on insights, allowing people behind the scenes and being able to offer hands-on experience are privileges, and we are very pleased that we can continue to offer a place for practical learning as a company in the future too!
Many thanks, Mathias
A special thank you goes to Prof. Dr Mathias Eggert, who made the project possible and saw it through. He guided us through the project with the perfect blend of friendliness and professionalism. We think the students can count themselves lucky to be able to work with him and learn from him.
